Gladstone Tavern is a winner: Just ask the crowds (download complete review)
July 23, 2006 The Star-Ledger
It's easy to see why the Gladstone Tavern is drawing a crowd. The place is fun and the food fits the bill for those who prefer straightforward food over fussy cooking. Coupled with the accommodating service, it’s easy to see why this restaurant was a winner right out of the gate.

Very Good to Excellent
Gladstone Tavern — American Food-21 | Decor-22 | Service-20 | Cost-E
Gladstone's “horsey set” touts the “tasty” Americana served at this “upscale” tavern set in a “beautifully restored” 1847 farmhouse done up in “country chic”– style, with a “wonderful” patio and a “horse statue” on the porch; it’s “romantic” inside, energetic at the bar and especially “nice in the winter when the fireplace is lit.”

Have been here a number of times and the food is great. Mostly we sit at the bar to eat because the bar staff is excellent.
Terrific food -- burgers, chicken schnitzel both are great. Great selection of wine and cold beer. Service is excellent.

The Peapack-Gladstone, Bernardsville, Bedminster area has two options: diner like atmosphere & the food to match, or a recently renovated inn/ tavern place where they charge $20 for a glass of wine and $45 for an entree. The Gladstone Tavern is the exception. Yes, it's still a tavern, yes it's refurbished, however, they have managed to leave the ridiculous prices out and the staff creates an atmosphere of "glad you came".
The food is good, the cocktails are great, the wine list is spot on, the facility is nicely decorated & the restrooms are always spotless (I always resent pricey restaurants with cheap & unkempt restrooms, here it's not pricey and the restrooms are very nice). Sit and enjoy your dinner, dessert & drinks as long as you want, you will never be rushed -- they really are glad you came. Leave the Bernards Inn, Pluckemin Tavern & Tewksbury Inn for the days you feel like spending unnecessary cash. If you just want to have a nice meal, with a good glass wine, in a great atmosphere, head to the Gladstone Tavern.

My family and I came here to celebrate my aunt & uncle's 50th Wedding Anniversary, and it was a truly memorable affair.
First, the entire staff was more than accommodating as well as being extremely friendly. Serving a party of 11 at a somewhat upscale restaurant can tend to be a challenge at times, but the staff really stepped up to the plate.
All of the orders came out timely, were correct and cooked to perfection. I enjoyed the Atlantic Salmon with garlic spinach and grit cakes, and started off with a dozen oysters on the half shell. The food was fresh and flavorful.
Though it's a bit of a hike from my apartment in Manhattan, hopefully I'll find another opportunity to bring myself back to the Gladstone Tavern.

We've had the Gladstone Tavern on our “list” for a very long time of places to try, and I'm glad we finally went!

First I should mention that Far Hills is a wonderful place... The Gladstone Tavern is just one of the many great places out here that make it worth the drive.
Right now I am craving their tender juicy fillet glazed with blue cheese and paired with garlic mashed potatoes... if only you didn't make my cholesterol jump.
The place is modern, clean and great for the neighborhood. The service is great...

I've only eaten here once, but I'm dying to go back.
Great atmosphere, more upscale but still casual. The menu has a good mix of inventive items and old classics. My husband swears their iron skillet chicken was the best chicken he'd ever eaten. The ingredients seem to be very fresh, and they've got great wines by the glass...

First time at the Gladstone Tavern. Our family went with another family, for a total of four adults, one teenager (with a sophisticated palate) and three eight year olds.
Service was prompt and efficient. The server's suggestions were helpful and her descriptions were accurate. She seemed to know the menu, including the cocktail menu, well.
The food was uniformly good. It didn't rival the Bernards Inn, but the prices didn't, either. My skillet chicken was moist and flavorful. My wife's rack of lamb was good; she and one of our other companions thought it was too sweet, the rest of us thought it was fine. My son's duck was on the sweet side, although it was perfectly cooked. Everyone else was very happy with their main courses.
We only had a couple of desserts. I had a ridiculous chocolate confection with peanut butter cream and marshmallow fluff that made me wish I could bake. Basically, I ate it with my spoon and defended it with my fork. . .
